I feel like both this and last year March was my big month of derailment. Spoiler alert?
I am battling serious bloat, an issue I’m attributing to matzoh. I’m sipping water, consuming pineapple (that actually doesn’t help, it’s just a fun fact for now), and hoping relief comes soon! This week is off to a weak start; I had stomach pain this weekend, and a headache yesterday! I feel like my appetite has changed, too. Maybe it’s the knowledge that I cannot have bread this week (or pasta, or rice), but I was so uninterested in dinner tonight! Weird occurrences. Thanks, Passover!
Onto the matter at hand: March resolutions. To be honest, I haven’t given them much thought this month! I’ve been rather fatigued still. I’ll keep the tradition and go through them one-by-one. Maybe I’ve done well, maybe I haven’t! Let’s find out together.
- Redesigning the Blog. I haven’t touched anything with the blog since last month. I’ve been writing, but I don’t think I’ve made any design changes! That said, I like the way it looks now. It could still use some tweaks!
- Sharpen my Spanish. I haven’t worked on this at all! I saw my cousin over the holiday weekend, and both he and his wife are fluent in Spanish. To boot, they are almost exclusively talking to their two year old child in Spanish, knowing she’ll pick up English quickly in preschool! She’s so cute, I almost want to be better just so I can actually talk to her. I sang a Disney song to her in English, though. She seemed to love it. I did too, to be honest. Disney’s just great.
- Learn a New Language. I’m breezing through Javascript! It’s not easy, but I feel like I’m understanding the basic “syntax” of it more and more. I am having the same difficulty with Javascript, funnily enough, that I have with Spanish: learning the grammar isn’t so challenging, it’s remembering all the different words. Aaron says no one has ALL the Javascript commands memorized, but my basic concept reviews seem to think that’s a requirement! I should make flashcards.
- Do Blogmas. I think I might still be able to pull this off when the time comes! I’m writing down ideas for that month as they come to me, and I’m halfway there.
- Post Consistently on Tuesdays and Saturdays. I think that one Saturday this month I came in just under the wire, but I’m generally in a good rhythm!
- Take Care of My Hair. I feel like my hair is looking shinier, but I’m still struggling with volume some days. Some days my hair just looks flat! There’s no va-va-voom. I want the va-va-voom!
- Read the Books I Didn’t Read Last Year. Slow and steady wins the race! It’s happening.
- Moisturize with Sunscreen Every Day. I know I’ve missed a few days (adds travel sunscreen moisturizer to shopping cart), but I’ve been pretty consistent with this one!
- Drink More Water. The headache yesterday? Well. I have a theory. My water consumption is better, but if I don’t drink crazy amounts when I, um, turn into a werewolf (like most women ages 13-55 do each month, hint hint), I get one of those nasty headaches! I’ve been good all this month, so only time will tell. Commence guzzling water!
- Play Chess Once a Week. I think about this a lot. I’m still putting off this goal, but when I think about it, there’s no reason Aaron and I can’t throw a game in every once in a while.
- Finally watch “The Crown,” “Little Fires Everywhere,” “The Undoing,” “The Haunting of Hill House,” and “The Haunting of Bly Manor.” I watched “The Undoing” this month, and by month, I mean I think I watched the entire series in a day. What a day. That was. People felt underwhelmed by the ending, but I thought it was brilliant. It’s great commentary on the criminal justice system, privilege, and the patriarchy (I am actively avoiding giving spoilers here). Aaron and I just finished “New Girl,” so now I can finally watch “The Crown.” I also feel like I need to add “Bridgerton” to the list, since EVERYONE has been talking about it since it premiered a few months ago.
- Become a Master Listener on Audible and Earn All Audible Badges. I decided to get two of my books for this year on Audible, instead of reading them on my Kindle. In one listen, I got another badge! I think I’m going to get this one done.
- Run a 30 Minute 5K. I got to about week 5? I think? Then I stopped. Waking up to run wasn’t fun for me. I like my walks. It also doesn’t help that I set this resolution with the mindset that I’ll be able to do a 5K at Disney, and I’m unsure if that will happen. I’m waiting to see if Disney updates their official marathon site for a marathon this October, as I mentioned last month. If I have a goal I’m passionate about, maybe I’ll get somewhere!
- Actually Use My Camera. So, there’s still a pandemic. I’m still barely leaving my house. HOWEVER. As the world begins to reopen, as vaccines become more of a reality for us all, vacations are being planned. I won’t jinx myself, but just know, this camera may just be getting used this year.
- Whiten My Teeth. I haven’t been following my schedule as much as I should be! I could do better with this one.
- Write More. I’ve been keeping up with my blogging just fine (yay), and with the knowledge that I’m putting other things first for now, I still managed to come up with another episode idea for “Black Mirror.” I swear, having enough material for my own season of it is becoming my own micro-goal!
So, as it turns out: March has been good, not great! I’m making progress, but I could be making MORE progress. To sort of guide myself in the right direction, inspired by my final note in my resolutions, here are a few micro-goals I will aim to meet by this time next month:
- In regards to my first resolution… there’s an image on my homepage that doesn’t display so great across all screens. I will fix that.
- In regards to my second resolution… I’m gonna sit down and finally watch “Narcos,” in Spanish.
- In regards to my fourth resolution… I am at about thirteen ideas for Blogmas. I’m going to come up with five more ideas.
- In regards to my sixth resolution… I am going to research what causes hair flatness, as well as increases volume, and incorporate those things into my routine.
- In regards to my seventh AND my twelfth resolution… I am going to finish “Rebecca,” by Daphne du Maurier, and “The Chiffon Trenches: A Memoir,” by Andre Leon Talley, over Audible this month.
- In regards to my fifteenth resolution… I am starting a new regimen: Toothpaste Tuesdays and Whitening Strip Wednesdays. Back-to-back days of my activated charcoal toothpaste and my Crest Whitening Strips.
- In regards to my seventh AND my sixteenth resolution… I am going to read “On Writing,” by Stephen King, in April. It will serve as a good way to actually develop my pitch ideas!
It’s a Tuesday, so… I’m gonna go brush my teeth with my charcoal toothpaste. Starting off strong!
