I am a work in progress, and so is my blog!
So if you’ve been looking around here for a bit, you’ll notice my tendency to always want to improve, learn, and generally go the extra mile. Today, I’m looking towards this space! Lately, I’ve been tweaking my posts to be more SEO friendly (ie, easier to find with a Google search). That takes time and lots of revisions!
Here’s what I’ve learned so far about SEO:
- Keywords are essential! That’s the first thing Google is going to look for when culling the internet for resources.
- Readability matters! Subheadings, passive voice, and transition words are necessary to have an SEO friendly webpage.
- Images need an identity! Adding “alt” tags lets people who may not be able to see your pictures know what your pictures are.
- Meta descriptions are a major key (word). Meta descriptions are the sentences that show up underneath your Google result. They should be succinct and direct, so that both a user and a search engine know EXACTLY what you’re giving in your post.
- Link away! The internet is for connecting with other people. It’s great when you can share other people’s content with your content. That collaboration is what makes the world wide web so special!
To summarize, this post is dedicated to my work in progress. I’ll be taking today (and tomorrow… and yesterday) to polish up previous posts to optimize them for search engines. I’ll be back with my regular musings on Tuesday. May the nitpicking begin!
