New Years’ Resolutions April: Where Am I?

A third of the year is in the books! How have my resolutions gone so far? Let’s find out here.

I think I’ve made a fairly decent dent in my resolutions so far this year. My priorities have changed and refocused plenty in the past four months, but I would like to believe that I have remained mostly on track. Let’s take a look and see!

  1. Redesigning the Blog. Last month I resolved to repair the image on my homepage. I ended up just replacing it entirely! I like the way it looks now.
  2. Sharpen my Spanish. I haven’t really made a dent here! Aaron and I occasionally message each other on Facebook using Spanish, and I’ve listened to Spanish music more but I know I can be doing more. I had wanted to start “Narcos” to put me on the right path this month, but “The Crown” took more time than I thought it would. On top of that, my sister requested that I watch “Elite,” which is another Spanish speaking television show, before the third season comes out this summer. I have plenty of room to grow here!
  3. Learn a New Language. Javascript and I are in a weird place in our relationship. It wants me to speak in five paragraph conversations, but I’m barely stringing together three sentences. Does this metaphor work? At any rate, I want to master Javascript by the end of the year, and still learn Python, Java and C#. Along with that, I want to work on an actual human language still, not just a computer language one!
  4.  Do Blogmas. I have high hopes here! I have 18 post ideas prepped for the month. Seven more and I’m set!
  5. Post Consistently on Tuesdays and Saturdays. I had my first flub-up this past weekend. Drat! A consistent schedule aside from that one day, though, is not too shabby. I continue on with the one flub!
  6. Take Care of My Hair. I didn’t research how to make my hair softer, but I still have a few days left in the month. Also, My hair is doing… well. FORESHADOWING?! Stay tuned.
  7. Read the Books I Didn’t Read Last Year. I am making progress here! I finished Rebecca, and I will likely finish “The Chiffon Trenches” by this weekend. With #75Hard, I have to read 10 nonfiction pages a day, so I’ve been on target in the past two weeks, thanks to that goal.
  8. Moisturize with Sunscreen Every Day. Consider this routine = established!
  9. Drink More Water. This is getting even better, since I have to drink a gallon of water a day. I’ve had a couple of headaches this month, but I think one of them might have been from overhydration. It’s a thing! I didn’t even take Advil that time, I don’t think. At least, I don’t remember doing so. Regardless! I’m drinking a gallon a day. Pretty cool!
  10. Play Chess Once a Week. I think about this a lot. I’m still putting off this goal, but when I think about it, there’s no reason Aaron and I can’t throw a game in every once in a while. <- yet to play a single game. I hope I have better news next month.
  11. Finally watch “The Crown,” “Little Fires Everywhere,” “The Undoing,” “The Haunting of Hill House,” and “The Haunting of Bly Manor.” I burned through the entirety of “The Crown”! It took a while, but what a saga it has been. I’ve really enjoyed it! I’ll watch the next two seasons, to be sure. Each actor and actress on the show is truly sublime. Claire Foy and Olivia Coleman excel as the Queen. I’ve especially loved the arc of Princess Margaret, though I wish Matthew Goode could have been given more time with the role as her photographer husband. Of course, of course, I cannot NOT mention Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor as Diana Spencer and Charles Windsor. Truly spectacular. I know that Emma Corrin only had the one season with the role and that the next actress will shine as Diana in the nineties, I just thought she was magical and wish she could have had more time as Diana. “The Crown” certainly takes artistic liberty, but I think that the truth might be stranger than fiction. I’ll point out that Prince Andrew, who has all but vanished from the public eye since it was all but confirmed that he was close to predator and trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, has had the smallest role on the show so far. I’m certain that’s no coincidence.
  12. Become a Master Listener on Audible and Earn All Audible Badges. I haven’t listened to Audible since finishing “Rebecca” two weeks ago. #75Hard requires you to READ books, not listen to them. What a bummer, right? Let’s hope I get through all 75 days on schedule. That way, I can resume my listening at the end of June.
  13. Run a 30 Minute 5K. I haven’t done any running this month. The latest runDisney event was last week, and no announcements for events later this year have been made. So instead, I sit waiting and refreshing the runDisney events page… in between walks, strength training, yoga, and yes, some bike rides too!
  14. Actually Use My Camera. So, there’s still a pandemic. I’m still barely leaving my house. HOWEVER. As the world begins to reopen, as vaccines become more of a reality for us all, vacations are being planned. I won’t jinx myself, but just know, this camera may just be getting used this year. <– this is pretty much the same! I haven’t touched the camera, but I’m seeing a photoshoot or two in the future.
  15. Whiten My Teeth. I’ve been keeping up with it! Last month I aimed to do toothpaste Tuesdays and whitening strips Wednesdays. I missed a Wednesday, but I’ve been brushing with my charcoal toothpaste each week. My teeth seem to be getting better!
  16. Write More. ‘Tis April, my love, and with that, “Escapril” returns. I haven’t been writing any of my screenplay ideas, but I’ve been writing poetry every day this month. I am getting a clearer sense of my style! Of the 27 poems I’ve written, I think I only truly like maybe 3 of them. The rest are good, they’re just not sensational, and I… am sensational.

I have three days left in this month, and then it’s off to May! Let’s see what happens with the resolutions moving forward from here. Hopefully some writing, some more reading, and (who would’ve thought I would say this): MORE movies and television!
