I took a break from blog posting last week. Here’s what happened!
More often than not, I visit my hometown from Fridays – Sundays. Some days I arrive Thursday night, and some days I leave Monday after work. However, in general, I’m usually only present for a weekend!
Last week was a true exception. Last week, my sister and I were set to see a concert on Wednesday, and a Jewish holiday began on a Friday. With that, I drove home on Tuesday and came back Saturday!
Three exciting events occurred last week. I believe a quick recap is in order!
LAST WEEK: A RECAP
- I returned to the office. Like the rest of the world, I went home from work the third week of March, 2020, and never went back. As COVID ravaged the world, I grew accustomed to working from home. Certainly, it wasn’t much of an adjustment! I loved it! However, my new supervisor for my new team is an old coworker that lives out of state. She flew in to meet with other team leads and supervisors for a week. As a result, I felt compelled to go into the office to see her in person!
Not only did the two of us reunite, but two coworkers and I got to see each other again and gab in the break room. It felt like old times! We even made plans to see each other for lunch this week. The office reorganized completely in the past six months, with my old desk clump now in use by a different department. Should I go into the office again, I’d work in the cooperative workspace, which gives me major start-up vibes. It was a great day! - I went to a Justin Bieber concert. Am I a Belieber? No. But I should be! I first heard Justin Bieber in my early days as a Swiftie. He opened for her during the Fearless tour, and she featured one of his songs in a travel vlog. I ended up getting the music video for that song, on iTunes, for FREE, before he blew up about a year later with “Baby.” My sister has long been a diehard Bieber fan, but I found his antics too off-putting for me to truly get smitten. His latest tour took him to a neighboring city, and my sister asked if I would like to go with her! I’ll dance to anything (and come on, it’s not like the dude doesn’t have any bangers), so off we went.
I was thoroughly impressed by his dance skills (which I knew he had), but I was also thoroughly impressed with his appreciation for his band. During the encore, he played the same three chords on a loop while each member of the band improvised over them. It was a great expression of musicality! He also warmed up his hands by playing the opening motif of “A Thousand Miles” by Vanessa Carlton, which is something I do sometimes, too. Lastly, his final song included a touching tribute to his wife, Hailey. Even if I’m not a “stan,” I still thought it was positively lovely. It was a fun night of music with one of my favorite people. - Passover 2022, we have liftoff! Passover is one of my mom’s favorite holidays (if not her absolute favorite holiday), and this was my first year that I got to share it with her since the pandemic. I think. My mind’s a blank about Passover 2021. We had a lowkey Seder with just the three girls, but I think next year my mom wants to host with everyone in the family either at her house or with our family in Chicago. Time will tell! In the last week, I’ve eaten matzo ball soup almost every day. I’m hoping next year I can make a vegan version. In the meantime, I didn’t realize how many foodstuffs have corn syrup. It really makes you think.
Also, in honor of the holiday, I taught myself a piano version of that mashup of the “Dune” theme and “Deliver Us” from “The Prince of Egypt”, both of which composed by Hans Zimmer. It only took me twenty minutes!
I didn’t give myself time to write blog posts on Tuesday and Saturday, as those were the days I spent at work, with family, and driving to and from home for over two hours at a time. But last week was a rarity! Let’s live in the now. As in, now I’m going to go take a shower and get in bed early.
