Cards, cuddles, and candy? All in one day? Sign me up for it all!
Tomorrow is February 14th, AKA Valentine’s Day! Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays: you get presents, candy, and quality time with someone you love. I have fond memories of arts and crafts days in elementary school, handing out colorful valentines or heart shaped lollipops to my classmates!
With that, here’s a quick round of “This or That: Cupid’s Edition.” From me, to you, with love!
1. Valentine’s or Galentine’s Day? This year, I gotta give it to Valentine’s Day. Today is Galentine’s Day, which is a day dedicated to sharing love to all the special ladies in your life. I love my girlfriends, but I can’t see any of them this year! That makes today tough. Hopefully, next year, Valentine’s Day will fall on another weekend day so I can make a trip out of it; and do a nice day with some friends one day and then a special day with Aaron the next!
2. Stay in or Go Out? Here’s an idea for next year: Come back and take this quiz again when going out is more socially sanctioned! Aaron and I are staying tonight, hopefully with a blanket fort and a heart-shaped pizza. Tomorrow night, we’re going to a fancier restaurant to enjoy something a little bit more elegant and romantic… though I don’t think you get much more intimate than PJs and Pillows!
3. Movie or Dinner? Dinner! Food is the way to my heart. You can’t really make a connection with someone staring at the same thing for two hours in silence. The real fun comes AFTER the movie, when you get to discuss it over breadsticks. Yum. Breadsticks.
4. Chocolates or Roses? Chocolate. Always. Easy. Roses are beautiful, but I have the least-green thumb in all of existence. Health endeavors aside, I would take a box of chocolates over flowers. That said, Aaron surprised me with a gorgeous bouquet of pink flowers this morning and it was the most romantic thing I’d ever seen. Any gift is thoughtful to me!
5. Hugs or Kisses? Hugs! I’m a hugger. I’ll hug anyone. Just don’t get any funny ideas, buddy!
6. Jewelry or Card? Listen: words are pretty, but diamonds are prettier. If I get a heartfelt card, chances are I’ll give it a hug, kiss it, and throw it away in six months! Yes, I’ve held onto some sentimental cards, but the majority of the time, greeting cards end up in the garbage.
7. Romantic Sunsets or Romantic Sunrises? I love sunrises! Usually it comes with a bonus bit of stargazing. I feel like it’s easier to see the stars in the morning when awaiting the sunrise, as opposed to waiting for stars after a sunset. They’re both great, but as an early riser, a sunrise hike is a great date to me!
8. “The Notebook” or “Titanic?” “Titanic”!! I cry too much at “The Notebook.” If you’re a bird, I’M a bird, am I right? At least with Titanic, I get to indulge in my love of cruises… even if, you know, it sinks. My heart WILL go on.
9. DIY gifts or Store Bought Gifts? STORE BOUGHT. I am not creative like that. I think it’s great if you’re both artists or if one of you is a woodworker and the other one designs clothes, but I think if I wrote Aaron a song, he’d appreciate the thought but hate the serenade.
10. Lace or Leather? Lace! I love a good “pleather” jacket, but I prefer to be more feminine and delicate, like lace, on Valentine’s Day.
11. Night in Paris or Night in NYC? In an ideal world, Aaron and I will have a night in NYC every weekend for at least ten years. So on Valentine’s Day, let’s say a Night in Paris, s’il vous plaît!
12. Red or White Wine? White! I’m not a wine drinker, at all, but you’re more likely to find me enjoying a nice sweet Riesling over a Merlot.
13. Conversation Hearts or Heart-Shaped Lollipop? I think most people would take the latter, but I LOVE conversation hearts! They’re so cute and while the texture might be too much for some people, I just think it’s delightful. A light way to enjoy something sweet, both in taste and in expression. B Mine?
14. Perfect Date or Perfect Gift? Yes, the right gift can make or break Valentine’s Day, but what I care about more is the experience. It’s not about what car I have, it’s about where I drive my car. Chances are, I’ll remember a perfect picnic on the beach more than I will a sweater or a set of earrings. You’re the REAL VIP if you can punctuate a perfect date with a perfect gift, though!
