My current favorites consist of calming chill vibes, semi-throwbacks, and TikTok trends… among others.
As the days go from beautiful to brutal(ly hot), May the Force be with us. That’s my way of saying it’s ALMOST Summer, and throwing in a Star Wars reference. I’m impressive.
I’ve been an avid TikTok user for over a year now (thanks, international pandemic!), and thanks to TikTok, I feel like I’ve been invited to try out new music through both catchy memes and algorithms. TikTok must have a partnership with Spotify, because it has recommended relaxing piano playlists, chillwave playlists, and playlists that will be loved by my cats. And I have followed every one of them.
Anyway, this list of my current favorite music contains songs I’ve found through TikTok, as well as a few that I’ve found thanks to the Youtube algorithm and a few bops that I rediscovered on my own. Get your headphones ready!

- Je te laisserai des mots by Patrick Watson. This one appeared in my recommended list while listening to a romantic playlist on Youtube. At first, just listening to it, it sounded like Tom Rosenthal. However, Patrick Watson is perhaps best known for being the vocalist in “To Build a Home” by The Cinematic Orchestra, which you’ve definitely heard at the end of at least one coming-of-age drama at SOME POINT in the past ten years. Anyway, this song title translates to “I will leave you notes.” It’s simple, sad, and sounds like slow dancing at a ball with your prince, only you’ve just realized you love each other the night before he has to marry someone else. How’s that for creative visualization?

- Electric Feel by Henry Green (Cover). Hey, didn’t I cover covers a few weeks ago? This version of the original MGMT track gives a much different feel (see what I did there?). MGMT’s “Electric Feel” is perfect for driving or riding your bike on a perfect sunny day. The Henry Green cover is much more dreamy, perfect for lying on a cloud that’s floating on a river in the middle of space. Think about it.

- Night Trouble by Petit Biscuit. While you’re floating down that space river. the song you can play after Electric Feel is this sweet nugget. I liked Petit Biscuit, and had discovered other tracks by them through friends and social media influencers using his music as the score for their aesthetic travel videos. “Night Trouble” has been in the background of a handful of TikToks lately! As long as aesthetic influencers will share their travel diaries, Petit Biscuit will have a built in audience looking for good vibes. I am always looking for good vibes.

- Levitating by Dua Lipa feat. DaBaby. Another TikTok bop. This one has gone viral in the past few weeks on TikTok. The trend consists of people making jokes about the opening verse and chorus (ex. “You want me. I want you baby,” lip-synced by a girl talking to a chocolate bar). It’s a fun song! Get up and dance!

- Mother Mother. A whole band! How about that? Another group that has been around for decades, but thanks to memes on TikTok, they’ve received more ear-time on Spotify. As a result, the two songs of theirs that I keep listening to are “Burning Pile” and “Oh Ana.” They’re very “main character” worthy.

- my ex’s best friend by Machine Gun Kelly featuring blackbear. Okay, I honestly feel like MGK is making his way onto the list of “people with a target on their backs” by the Twitter community based on some cringe tweets he’s written in the past, but in the meantime, he’s sort of a social media darling. The approachable bad boy with a foul mouth and great tattoos. He’s currently dating resident queen Megan Fox (long may she reign), but this song about exes and new love is not about her. He performed this during his set as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live, and I must say, it caught my attention! By “caught my attention,” I mean I’ve played it almost every day since hearing it the first time over a month ago.

- R U Mine? by Arctic Monkeys. This song is almost ten years old. Wow. It’s from Arctic Monkeys’ acclaimed AM album, which is just a goldmine of bops. Anyways, I don’t remember why this song has taken up residence in my brain, but it keeps coming up in Spotify playlists of mine. Spotify knew I liked it before I did! Thanks, Spotify!
-
- Heart of Glass by Miley Cyrus (Cover). ANOTHER cover? Yes! Miley Cyrus has really come into her own as a rocker girl. She has the pipes to back it up, now all she needs is a full fledged album that is as hair metal as her current hairstyle (Hannah Montana who?). She performed this live and it was so well received that she released it as a single and put it on her latest album. It’s a Blondie original (and approved!), and she gives it her all. Say what you will about her, but Miley goes all in when she’s got a mic in her hand.
-
- Sex Money Feelings Die (slowed down) by Lykke Li. I do not remember the first time I heard this song. It popped up on a, um… very specific playlist. I’ll just say that it’s delicious.

- Hey Ya by The Blanks. I guess I’m really into covers now! I’m VERY MUCH AWARE that this song is actually super depressing. This song has no reason to receive a romantic sounding acoustic cover, but yes, it does work. I’ve recently started to rewatch “Scrubs,” which was one of the first shows I binge-watched as a youth. The Blanks are a band formed by one of the actors on the show, Sam Lloyd (who passed away recently, sadly). The band made several appearances on this show, and this cover was the underscore of one of the last truly romantic moments of the series. Don’t think too hard on this one.
Spring has sprung and made way for sun! Looking forward to a Hot Wench Summer filled with these songs and more.
