30 Before 30: A checklist for three years.
My birthday lies on June 13, a Sunday! This year, I turn 27 years old. I feel like more now than ever, people in their twenties complain of feeling age and fatigue. I can’t count how many times I’ve heard a friend say “Ugh, I’m so old!”
Listen up, sister. I have SO much time on this earth. I do not intend to live fast and die young. There’s so much to see and do, and I will not rush the process.
I don’t know where this quarter-life death sentence even got its origins, to be honest! In my readings about the French diet –or should I say, the French lifestyle– I have learned this interesting tidbit: most do not consider a woman as “arrived” until the age of 30. They don’t see “old hag” at 29, they see “experienced woman who knows herself.”
In the next three years, I want to grow, learn, and accept myself as I want to be. I have a tendency to let others tell me what to do, how to dress, and how to live. How am I supposed to be a woman who knows herself if I don’t get the chance?
With that in mind, I’m dedicating this post to a list of things I want to do before I turn thirty years old. I have fifteen objectives so far, and I want to have a full list of 30 goals. I’m going to start with fifteen, and add as time passes.
Adventures, objectives, and trips abound on this list. Perhaps in my quest to do it all, I will become the woman I already am… and then some.
- Go to Paris (either with my mom or with Aaron).
- Make FRESH pasta, from scratch.
- Get my SCUBA license.
- Learn Italian.
- Wear a Batman party dress (this means I wear a full length, swanky dress, to attend a gala, ball, dressy event, where you could expect the Joker to crash and wreak havoc until Batman shows up to stop him).
- Reach my goal weight.
- Do a photo shoot when I’ve reached my goal weight.
- Run a 30 Minute 5K.
- Write 2 screenplays.
- Do a non-virtual wellness retreat.
- Take a trip with my sister, just the two of us.
- Buy one of the items from my fashion bucket list.
- Take a heels dancing class.
- Add 6K to my savings account.
- Fly somewhere first class.
For now, I say farewell to 26. You were an interesting year, to be sure. Now, it’s twenty-seven’s turn. This is where the fun begins.
