Keep it simple with a classic holiday makeup look!

Since the beginning of the Kodak Yellow, annual Christmas photos have become a tradition around the world. However, we’ve adapted over time from the Christmas card and corresponding newsletter to full Instagram posts of decorated trees, jammies, and adorably dressed children in hard shoes that hurt. In fact, now it’s a parade of pictures! Christmas parties, Yankee Swaps, Christmas morning, and Christmas dinner ALL require selfies. What’s a girl to do?

If I haven’t made it clear through my multitude of makeup posts this year, I’ve embraced the pandemic-induced tradition of keeping it simple. A year ago, I might have advocated for highlighter and contour. Hey, even now, if that’s what floats your boat, by all means, set sail!

However, if you want to let your own face speak for itself, here’s my go-to for a simple holiday makeup look.

HOLIDAY MAKEUP LOOK

  1. Matte Face. To clarify, one of my favorite makeup products for the year is a very light highlighter from Selena Gomez’s makeup collection. However, I will be ditching the all over bronzer, highlighter, and contour in favor of something more natural. In fact, I’m still debating if I will be applying foundation! I’m feeling more partial to letting my natural glow take center stage.
  2. Top liner + mascara. Keep the matte party going with a neutral shadow! I might add a bit of bronze to my crease to add a bit more dimension. Other than that, I will likely just swipe a layer of liquid liner to my top eyelid with a bit of a wing. Mascara up the wazoo and call it a (holi)day!
  3. Bold red lip. Taylor Swift is the queen of Christmas celebrations, and she knows how to rock the red lip better than anyone. I will follow her example! I got a great Yves St. Laurent lip stain earlier this year. It’s a bit darker than a true crimson red, but that only adds a layer of glam!

A three step holiday makeup look takes ten minutes, leaving more time to focus on what really matters: your hair. Just kidding!
