My 2022 resolutions include my magic number and clean living, body and soul!

It’s my last day of “vacation” before diving into the 2022 fiscal year. I say “fiscal year” like I know what that is! In the past week, I’ve created a yoga space out of a dirty patio, finished a book, and created my dream bathroom! It’s been productive, but I still made time to relax. In fact, I made plenty of time to relax! On top of all of that, I began a new year, filled with promising new year resolutions.I know exactly what I’m after, and how I’m going to improve my quality of life along the way.

An unmentioned resolution I have relates to a bad habit of mine: I do too much lead-up to my points! Too much preamble! Let’s cut right to the mushroom and potatoes of it (I know that’s not the expression, but it’s veganuary. So, that’s the phrase for the next twenty-seven days!).

My 2022 Resolutions

  1. Wash dishes on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

One of my biggest pet peeves is letting the dirty dishes stack up in or near my sink! Twice a week runs of the dishwasher, and handwashing, should strike the perfect balance. Cleaning as I cook and loading the dishwasher helps, too!

  2. Watch 4 movies a month from “1001 Movies to See Before You Die.”

I think I will do a post at the end of each month, about each movie, to keep me accountable. I love a good accountability booster!

  3. Take a self-care bath weekly.

Don’t worry, I shower and support quality hygiene practices! However, I’ve noticed that I feel much more at peace after a good bath, filled with bubbles, smelling salts, or flower petals. I don’t do them often enough! As a result, making it a weekly practice is my annual promise.

  4. Clean my bathroom once a month.

I spent about eight-ish hours organizing and giving my bathroom a thorough cleanout last week. However, it didn’t include wiping down my shower, cleaning my toilet, or vacuuming the floor! To clarify, I’m generally a clean person, and I’m not exactly living in filth. But scrubbing down my shower with some bleach every few weeks can only enhance the cleanliness, right?

  5. Wash my bedsheets every two weeks.

This is a baby step habit, for now. I’m not proud of how few times I wash my sheets throughout the year. For all I talk of cleanliness, this lack of a habit feels the most shameful. As a result, I intend to start by washing my bed-sheets every two weeks. Hopefully, I can work my way up to a weekly wash, which I believe is the CORRECT standard. I can only buy so many Tide pods!

  6. Tidy my bedroom/closet every three days.

Throughout last year, I kept noticing that my bedroom and closet would get messy. After too long, things got cluttered! I took a day last week (technically two) to organize and clean out my closet. It’s stayed clean since! Making tidying a regular practice will help decrease instances of mess buildup. I don’t even know how I own so many socks. They just show up, every night, beside my bed.

  7. Start every morning (and end every workday) with 15 minutes of yoga.

I have wanted to make yoga a regular habit for years now! With early wakeups (and yes, procrastinating), it’s never happened. With yoga, I hope to gain some flexibility, a calmer mood, and an appreciation for stillness. I also hope I learn how to breathe. Every time the instructor says to “exhale,” I’m inhaling. What am I doing wrong? I hope I can find out soon!

  8. Send everyone I love a birthday card.

It’s the simplest concept: let people in my life know that I care. Yes, a text is free and takes two seconds. But that little effort feels like not enough for some of the people in my life. As a result, I’m making sure everyone gets a card this year.

  9. Call my grandparents/email my grandpa once a month.

Remember when I had this resolution two years ago? I had some improvement last year, but that means I’ve had another two years with them. That’s more luck than I can put into words. I should show some appreciation for that.

  10. Actually learn ASL, sharpen my Spanish, and learn conversational French.

This one should sound familiar: my 2021 resolutions come back with a vengeance! I can’t forget this one again.

  11. Fully learn Javascript (with a focus on standard, Typescript, and Angular), PHP, AWS, and Kubernetes.

Whole lotta hoopla, right? I made it to a new job in the past year. That’s great! However, I’m not big on coasting. I ought to make some progress learning some more coding languages, especially if I want to transition into a software engineer position. Then I can make more money and work remotely and move to Vermont and be super happy all the time. Doesn’t that sound nice? I think that sounds nice.

  12. Get to my goal weight by December 1st.

This one’s taking a top priority this year. It clearly hasn’t for a while. I’m planning to meet this goal with the help of 5K training, cycling, and enjoying active activities like tennis! However, I’m aware that weight loss is 80% diet, 20% exercise. I’ve taken on the “Veganuary” challenge, in which you eat vegan for the entire month! Truthfully, I feel a lot happier after the past few days of eating vegan. I’m eager to see where the journey takes me!

  13. Start, and complete my writing projects.

I wrote a lot last year, between poetry and blogs! However, I want to actually start and finish the multitude of creative writing ideas I’ve come up with in the past… three years! No time like the present, right?

My 2022 resolutions focus mostly on developing cleaner habits. Items 12 and 13 are my top priority in 2022. I hope that by this time next year, I’m healthier, happier, and more creatively fulfilled! For now, my cousin’s birthday is Friday. This birthday card won’t mail itself!

TL, DR? A picture’s worth a thousand words! Behold: the 2022 vision board!
