Blogmas continues with my Holiday wish list! What sort of treats do I hope to receive for Chrismukkah this year?
Ah, December. It’s a time of family, friends, and gifts! Truthfully, I love giving gifts more than getting gifts. Hold the eyerolls, but it’s a true feeling of satisfaction to know that I’ve nailed a present! This year, I know I have at least one or two surprise presents to give to my loved ones. My lips stay zipped on that capacity. Instead, I’ll say what’s on my holiday wish list this year!
MALLORY’S 2021 HOLIDAY WISH LIST
- Root Beer lip balm/chapstick. I don’t know what it was about this year, but I rediscovered a love of root beer! I didn’t drink it often as a child, but lately, I can’t get enough! I’ve only bought a pack or two this year to bring home from the store, but now I typically order a root beer to go with my meal in restaurants. Not the best habit, I know! This gift kills two birds with one stone (but why kill two birds? What did they do to you?). I can still have the taste of root beer, AND protect my forever chapped lips!
- Maple Leaf Necklace. I am asking for trouble with this one. I know it’s possible to find something tasteful and pretty, to remind me of Vermont. However, it’s tough at first glance to not think “… wait. That looks like the devil’s lettuce.” While I support the RIGHT to spend an afternoon with that green gentleman, it’s not a hobby of mine! Missing Vermont and wishing I were enjoying a maple creemee at any given moment, however, definitely is. A dainty necklace will keep that energy close to my heart.
- Glow in the dark running gear. My 5K training occurs on adrenaline, chaos, and a dash of fear. That dash of fear is coloured by my concern that cars won’t see me in the wee hours of the morning. I don’t help my self by having almost exclusively black workout clothes! A nice glow in the dark… something, should do the trick.
- Gold Hoop Earrings. Preferably white gold, for Hanukkah. Just kidding! I want the “look.” All the hot girls on Instagram wear gold hoop earrings. I used to be a “silver” kind of girl, but now I like the look of gold jewelry. That’s a metaphor for my desire to be the best, obviously.
- DuckBill Aluminum Hair Sectioning Clips and Velcro Hair Rollers. With all the nostalgia attacks of the nineties, I’ve noticed something about that timeframe: the hair. From Cher Horowitz to the iconic Rachel Greene to specifically this actress/model from two episodes of “Seinfeld,” blowouts are on another level! Smooth, silky, shiny, and healthy spring to mind! I’ve been attempting to recreate the style (albeit with shorter hair) on my own. Sectioning off parts of my hair takes forever. Not having enough clips nor the right size of hair rollers doesn’t help! With a few more clips (and a Youtube tutorial can’t hurt), I will have the hair of champions. Again with the winner mentality!
- Zip Up Sweatshirts and/or flannel shirts. I love a good hoodie, and I miss the warm fabric of the fall! However, I have ulterior motives. When attempting the aforementioned nineties blowout, I roll my hair up into rollers and leave them in for thirty minutes. It’s hard to fit a shirt over my head-ful of rollers! As a result, I would really love tops that I don’t need to slip over my head for when I’m performing such a blowout attempt. In an ideal world, I can shower in the morning, roll up my hair, get dressed, start my day, and then take down my new ‘do, without any wet hair drenching my top for the day!
- Pink Cycling Jersey. I’m not vegan, but I’m obsessed with this girl and her multitude of cute cycling jerseys. If I don’t get this one, I might have to treat myself!
- Athletic Zip Sweatshirt. I had this one jacket in college that I used to wear figure skating. It had thumbholes and a zip that went all the way to my chin! I felt like such an athlete wearing it. I have one now, but it’s all white. It makes me look like Agent 99 from “Get Smart,” but I’m so scared to actually SWEAT in it and leave stains! It’s been pretty cold in the mornings, so I’d like something long sleeved to keep me warm.
- Bath Bombs. I’m slowly coming to terms with how luxurious a self-care moment baths can be. I like to light candles, turn on some Enya, and fill my bathtub with Epsom salt, bubbles, or a bath bomb! I just soak my cares away in a tepid pool of my own filth. How glorious, right? A bath bomb just adds to the magic. I think I’d like to sub out bath bombs, bubble bath, Epsom salt, soaking salts, and flower petals! I keep seeing another influencer I like add what appear to be either rose petals or orchids to a bath. Now THAT is luxury.
- Red High Top Converse. This past month, I watched this hilarious show about a video game company called “Mythic Quest.” It’s led by a killer ensemble, both on and off screen, but I couldn’t help but be enamoured of one character’s clothes. Poppy Li is quirky, ambitious, and one of the smartest members of the “Mythic Quest” team. In fact, she’s the lead engineer! I think most people in tech will tell you that they value comfort over style when dressing for work. Poppy dresses casually and efficiently. Throughout the series, she cycles through multiple pairs of colorful sneakers. Low risk, high reward, if you ask me! I mentally want to buy every pair of her shoes. For now, a pair of red high tops will be more than sufficient!
My holiday wish list seems to send a message. I want to be the best. The best what? The best me. Fast. Strong. Stylish. Loved. At peace. What more could anyone want? ‘Tis the season!
