Failure is Not an Option: the Universe is Throwing Me a Bone

I’m playing fetch with the universe, because it’s throwing me a bone!

Somewhat recently, I saw an Instagram post that said something along the lines of, “The universe doesn’t want you to suffer. The things that are meant to be yours should come easily.” Is that the sounds of the privileged who have never known true suffering? Well, yes. It was one of my Hawaii trustafarian kids, I think. And yet, I do think there is some truth to it.

Sometimes I walk away from a situation thinking, “Well, that was a freebie.” Like, when I’m too tired to go for a run, but I get up anyway, only to realize it’s raining. Or, when I’m trying to eat healthier, and the grocery store is having a 3 for $10 sale on pints of strawberries.

However, the universe has provided me a big freebie! My work queue has slowed down considerably in the past two weeks. As a result, I’ve felt less stressed throughout the day. As well, I had a one on one with my new supervisor, in which we discussed my future! I mentioned wanting to spend more time learning new programming languages, sharpening my skills, to make myself a better developer.

Today, I glanced upon a blank to-do list. How exciting! My supervisor noticed a lack of requests in my “queue,” and told me the news: a new coworker has arrived! They’ve assigned a senior developer to take half of my whatever hits my “queue,” so that this new team member can shadow them and learn the ropes. In the meantime, I’m free to work on LinkedIn Learning projects, bootcamps, and more.

What a boondoggle! Now I get to work on one of my personal goals during my workday. As a result, my weekends and evenings are now even more free to pursue foreign languages, writing, and reading.

So, thank you, big Universe, for throwing me a bone, and giving me an opportunity to get things done. I promise to come back with a branch that I shouldn’t physically be able to carry.
